FYi: Basic transportation - KASHMIR Part 1

What if... you could build anything you wanted? What would you build? One of the coolest things about the Porsche 911, and its 60 years of design evolution, is that you can generally mix and match parts from different generations and blend the best bits to create your own vision of the ideal 911.

What is 'basic transportation'? Small. Lightweight. Analog. No radio. No ABS. No traction control. No heat. No A/C. No power windows or door locks. And NO automatic transmission...! It's about as simple and minimalist as transportation can get.

In this case we started out with a 1979 SC, which was taken down to bare metal for the build. Taking heavy inspiration from the early 911 S/T and RSR, we're calling this the 911 S/TR. The motor is a 3.6L flat six that has been rebuilt with Carillo rods, Mahle pistons, ARP head studs, Rothsport pulleys, and Schrick camshafts and valve springs. Suspension is Bilstein RSR coilovers. Braking is handled by Elephant Racing calipers all around, coupled with 15" RSR spec. Fikse 3 piece wheels with Michelin TB15's mounted. Transmission was swapped to a freshly rebuilt aluminum 915 gearbox with a LSD, running through a Wevo shifter.

It's not done (is it ever 'done'?). We have a LOT more to do. Stay tuned for Part 2.
